Bastard Sun brings together previously unpublished (very) short stories, written over the course of several years, with a series of 35mm photographs I took in Georgia between 1996 and 2001, before emigrating to the UK. Speaking from the margins, at first as a teenager of the first post-Soviet generation with its socio-economic depravity, then as a young mother and asylum seeker, I have written these stories predominantly for myself, in order to remember. Writing in English, which I had to grapple with in the beginning, adds another layer of distortion to the reality that at times seemed more fickle and fake than fiction — a constant thread running through the book." — Sophio Medoidze
